This painting combines the dramatic beauty of a broody sky with the majesty of a bull moose and the grace of trumpeter swans. Mount Moran dominates the background and a window of sunlight illuminates a portion of Jackson Lake and floods the foreground with welcome light. A large bull moose pauses to access the approach of a pair of trumpeter swans. Soon the swans will be gone, the moose will as well, and the sunlight will play its magic elsewhere, yet for this moment- all the elements harmonize in an unusual combination of grace and perfection.

Steve Spencer, an Idaho native, is a self-taught wildlife, landscape and portrait artist. His paintings are the fruit of rigorous contact with the source, the hours he spends in front of an easel are preceded by weeks in the mountains and canyons of the west. The landscapes are places he has walked and is familiar with. Steve's work is an articulate expression of his love for the "delicate weave of extremes" that is the West.
