Artist's Description

While hiking with a group of adults and young people I dropped behind to witness the drams of light and shadow and profound weather. I savored the display of the ever changing sky and landscape. The view is looking down into Death Canyon with Death Canyon shelf on the left na d the jutting group of the Tetons dominating the center skyline. The foreground rocks are spotlighted for a moment and command equal attention as the distant Grand Teton; a progression from the immediate to the awe inspiring happenings that form the layers of this landscape. At such a moment the eye doesn't quite know where to walk next.

Steve Spencer, an Idaho native, is a self-taught wildlife, landscape and portrait artist. His paintings are the fruit of rigorous contact with the source, the hours he spends in front of an easel are preceded by weeks in the mountains and canyons of the west. The landscapes are places he has walked and is familiar with. Steve's work is an articulate expression of his love for the "delicate weave of extremes" that is the West.
